Bill Detail
An Act respecting the interoperability of health information technology and to prohibit data blocking by health information technology vendors
This enactment aims, among other things, to ensure that health information technology that is licensed, sold or supplied as a service by a vendor is interoperable and to prohibit data blocking by the vendor in order to promote a connected, secure and person-centered health system.
This bill, called the Connected Care for Canadians Act, aims to make Canada's health system more connected, secure, and focused on patients. It requires health technology companies to make their software and systems work together (interoperable) and bans them from blocking access to electronic health information. This is intended to ensure Canadians and their healthcare providers can easily and securely access their health records, improving patient safety and health outcomes.
