An Act respecting National Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma Awareness Day
This enactment designates the 17th day of May in each and every year as “National Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma Awareness Day”.
This bill, titled the National Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma Awareness Day Act, proposes to officially designate May 17th of each year as National Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma Awareness Day across Canada. The purpose is to raise awareness about Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a rare and aggressive brain tumor that primarily affects young children, typically between the ages of five and seven.
DIPG is a fatal and inoperable disease with no known cure, and treatment advancements have stagnated for decades. By establishing this awareness day, the bill aims to encourage greater public and private investment in research to find better treatments and improve the prognosis for those diagnosed with this devastating illness, while also honouring those who have lost their lives to it.
