Bill Detail
An Act to amend the Criminal Code (sexual assault material)
This enactment amends the Criminal Code to make it an offence to carry out certain activities in relation to visual recordings depicting non-consensual sexual activity.
Bill C-275, if passed, would create new criminal offences related to "sexual assault material." This term is defined as visual recordings that explicitly and realistically show non-consensual sexual activity. The bill aims to criminalize activities such as making, possessing, distributing, and even accessing such material.
This legislation would affect anyone who knowingly creates, possesses, shares, or views these types of recordings. Penalties vary depending on the specific offence and intent, ranging from fines to significant prison sentences. However, exceptions are included for legitimate purposes related to justice, science, medicine, education, or art. The bill also specifies that intent to profit is an aggravating factor during sentencing.
