Bill Detail
An Act respecting a national day of remembrance to honour Canadian Armed Forces members who have lost their lives in peacetime in Canada
This enactment designates the 22nd day of October, in each year, as “Peacetime Service and Sacrifice Memorial Day”.
Bill C-252 proposes to establish October 22nd each year as "Peacetime Service and Sacrifice Memorial Day." This day would be dedicated to remembering and honouring members of the Canadian Armed Forces who have lost their lives in Canada while serving during peacetime.
The bill highlights the sacrifices made by service members not just in times of war, but also in non-combat roles on Canadian soil, including recent tragic events and suicides within the forces. It aims to ensure these individuals are also recognized, similar to Remembrance Day for those lost in conflict. If passed, the national flag on the Peace Tower would be flown at half-mast on this day.
