Bill Detail
An Act to establish a national strategy on housing for young Canadians
This enactment provides for the development of a national strategy on housing for young Canadians to ensure they have greater access to affordable and secure housing. It also provides for reporting requirements in respect of the strategy.
Bill C-227 aims to create a national strategy to improve housing for young Canadians, defined as those aged 17 to 34. The strategy will focus on ensuring this age group has better access to affordable and secure housing options, including rental, student, and entry-level home ownership.
The Minister will develop this strategy in consultation with various levels of government, housing organizations, municipalities, and young people themselves. The plan will assess the current housing situation for young Canadians and propose measures to improve affordability, support first-time homebuyers, promote the construction of suitable housing, and reduce barriers to secure housing. The strategy will be tabled in Parliament and made public, with a follow-up report on its effectiveness due within four years.
