Bill Detail
An Act to amend the Marine Liability Act (national strategy respecting pollution caused by shipping container spills)
This enactment amends the Marine Liability Act to provide for the development and implementation of a national strategy to address pollution caused by shipping container spills.
Bill C-215 proposes to create a national strategy to deal with pollution caused by shipping containers that fall off boats into the ocean. It requires the government to study current problems, look at salvage capabilities, and assess how well we can prevent and clean up spills. The strategy must include ways to prevent spills, improve communication with communities and responders, and create a joint task force for spills involving different levels of government, Indigenous groups, and other organizations. It also aims to fund research on the impact of plastics from lost containers and how to remove them.
